In a belated follow-up to the COP26 climate march through Southwell, for March 2023 we have put together two inspirational events that will consider and support our personal role in the climate crisis, along with our annual Spring Clean Southwell to help the local environment.
1 March: In Our Hands

Government action on climate change is inadequate.
And that inaction is causing climate anxiety, as we worry for our futures and those of our children and communities.
This inspirational lecture will address the issue of eco-anxiety, its impacts, how it can leave us feeling powerless and how corporations are working hard to keep you feeling this way. Emma will utilise her experience and show real-life examples of practical, tangible solutions.
This evening will show you how change is possible, and how much power you – and we, together – really hold.
Our presenter
Emma Oldham, a conservation biologist, has spent over a decade working for environmental and campaign organisations.
Our venue
The talk is free though we would like this opportunity to thank and support Reach Learning Disability for the venue and refreshments via a donation on the evening or when ordering your ticket.
18 March: Spring Clean Southwell
Back for its fifth year, we’ll be gathering at the Methodist Church at 1pm on 18th March to set out on a deep clean of our local footpaths and pavements. Everyone welcome, please bring gloves – litter pickers and bin bags will be provided by Newark and Sherwood District Council.
And yes, we’d really prefer not to have to do this…
25 March: Green Fair
Join us on 25 March for our Green Fair at Southwell Minster’s Great Hall. We’ll be there 10am – 2pm with a range of stands hosting climate conversations on different elements of sustainable living, including food, waste, homes and money. Where we have answers our experts will share them, where we don’t, let’s discuss what we can do together.
If you have expertise to offer, please get in touch – we’re particularly keen to hear from a group that can enthuse and advise on low carbon travel.
