Up Close and Personal with Worms
Anna, from the social enterprise team at the Urban Worm, visited the Green Fair with some rather unusual friends.

The Urban Worm is a community interest company committed to raising the profile of worm farming as the ecological and economic solution for organic waste management and organic agriculture. They support schools, communities, farmers and families harnessing the power of the humble earthworm to build foundations for food production to flourish, and for societies to thrive in the face of adversity.
The reality of climate change, natural resource depletion and mass urbanisation present unprecedented threats to global food security and the survival of humanity. Worm farming provides solutions to help us meet and address these challenges, as individuals, communities, institutions and businesses. The process particularly lends itself to the urban environment with small scale indoor, low tech and low-cost systems. With 83% of the UK living in cities, an urban worm farming movement is essential for future food security and provides easy solutions for our kitchen waste.
Visit their website at www.urbanworm.co.uk to find out more about the workshops they run in schools and the community and to read their illustrated guides on how to set up your own mini worm farm or, on a grander scale, a wheelie bin worm farm. The website also has a shop if you want to buy any of their worm farming conversion kits or Magic Manure artisan products.
